So I have my people. We all have our people. You know, the people who just get you and let you be YOU.
Who are your people?
Are your people bringing out the best version of you?
Our people are powerful influences in our lives, therefore, we need to be mindful of who we allow to speak into our lives.
Years ago, I had two kiddos in middle school and one in high school.
It got me thinking. Who are their people?
My daughters referred to this group of friends as their squad.
How do we come to have this squad and why is it so important?
Your squad will typically overlap with another one.
It’s not a clique.
It’s your people.
If you have a healthy squad, they invade your life when you think it’s best to be alone, but they know better.
They hug you when you feel like you’re not worthy.
They listen instead of talking.
They cheer for you.
They cry with you.
They bake you brownies when they don’t even like to bake.
They show up at your house with food for your family and treats for your dog when a child is sick.
They are there when marriages end or new love is found.
They celebrate you and your triumphs.
They exercise with you even when it’s not their thing.
They listen, laugh and love.
Everyone needs a squad because we weren’t made to go through life alone.
In the age of social media you would think we are all more connected, but in reality people have never felt more alone.
Being a friend is just as important as finding a friend.
I tell my kids to be the friend you want to befriend.
Be honest, kind, loyal, supportive.
Throw out selfishness and vanity.
Those things will only leave you empty.
Fill someone else’s cup and watch your world unfold to endless possibilities.
This quote is pretty popular and I am pretty sure I recently heard it in a country song, “You have friends for a reason, season or lifetime.”
Meaning, as we walk through life, we will make friends for a reason.
Perhaps, you both love books and this brings you together.
A season could be a class you’re taking.
A lifetime, well, those are the friendships that combine a reason and season and keep on going.
I believe we have to be intentional about being a good friend, but the best friendships evolve effortlessly, naturally.
Not everyone we meet is meant to be a lifelong friend. That’s okay.
I love my squad because they walk through life with me.
We share inside jokes.
Sometimes we only communicate through Gif’s.
This squad is composed of many different people who live in different cities and states, but we are bound together through a genuine love for one another.
This goes out to my squad, thank you.
My world is a better place because of you.
You know who you are.
I am GRATEFUL.
Go out and be a good friend, and only give heart access to people who speak life into you!
